D. A. R. E. : The Kewaskum Police Department has been involved in the basic (5th grade)  D.A.R.E. (Drug Abuse Resistance Education) program since 1991.  This program brings a uniformed officer into the classroom to teach the students ways to avoid drug use and  abuse and ways to avoid violence.  One of the main benefits of the program is that it allows students one-on-one contact with an officer in a positive environment.

School Resource Officer:  In January 2001, Kewaskum Police Department established a full-time Police School Liaison Program at the Kewaskum High School and the Kewaskum Middle School.  In this program, an Officer is available at the two schools on a daily basis.  This is a proactive program allowing the Police Department to have an officer in the schools to deal not only with the problems, but to establish a rapport with the students, staff, and the parents in the school district.  The program allows meeting with an Officer on a one-to-one basis in a non-confrontational setting.  With the violence that has come about in some schools in recent past, this program has an Officer on scene in the event of a disaster.
